Kenji
Sakai, a native of Japan, moved to New York to study art in the
early 1980's. After 10 years of city life, he flew to South America
to explore first hand the Pre-Columbian art and civilizations
he had been gradually influenced by.
This series of photographs are the records of a journey from the
tip of the southern continent through the Andes and into Central
America, an exploration of the ancient and present day civilizations
of the Americas.
"These photographs were taken in the most memorable places
of my journey. I wanted to capture the sense of sky, fog,
moisture and air; a timelessness that breathes and lives in the
shadows of ancient ruins." |
